BARN DINNERS & CEILIDHS
The traditional farm steadings at Mavis Hall Park form a truly unique setting – the old cattle sheds, stable and hay loft are now used for barbecues, barn dinners, weddings and great Ceilidhs! We can have a bonfire blazing in the courtyard and a spit roast pig sizzling under the arches. The barns are decorated in rustic style using tartan, fresh greenery and hessian with wild flowers on the tables. We can style the barn to suit any theme you wish however and are happy to discuss this with you. The farm buildings have a unique old world charm which is difficult to match and makes for a truly magical and memorable evening. "The event was a resounding success and enjoyed by all – I think it was the first time we had no dissenting voices. The food and the service were excellent..." We can cater for up to 330 in the large barns, the small barn can seat up to 40 and the Hay Loft is suitable for smaller groups. In addition we can add on marquees as necessary to accommodate more guests. Spit RoastThe farm buildings lend themselves particularly well to BBQs and Spit Roasts – A whole pig or lamb slowly roasting on a spit adds to the whole atmosphere as the aroma drifts towards you, mixed with the smell of wood smoke from the bonfire.
A spit roast can either be part of a menu or can be served in a much more informal way. If a ‘sit down’ meal is not required, then a slice of spit roasted pig with some apple sauce and stuffing, served in a bun as you stand round the bonfire with a beer in your other hand works really well too.
Ceilidhs! In Scotland the word ceilidh means a gathering – where there will be songs, dancing, music – in other words, it’s a party! It also describes an evening of traditional Scots/Irish entertainment of dancing and singing. Ceilidh is informal, letting the good times roll and having a laugh with friends. "Loved the ambience of the barn with the warm lighting – very inviting." Don’t worry if you have never heard of the Gay Gordons or The Dashing White Sergeant – by the end of the evening your head will be in a spin, your muscles will feel like they have done a full workout but you will know just why Scottish country dancing is a world wide phenomenon! If you don’t want a full ceilidh but do fancy a taste of Scotland, we can organise a Burns Supper, a Scottish Evening or a whisky tasting for our guests. Whisky TastingWe can organise a whisky tasting as part of your event. The Glenkinchie distillery is a neighbour of ours and part of the Scotch Whisky Trail. We would be delighted to set up some of their single malts as a wee pre-dinner aperitif, just to get you in the spirit of things! |
